COVID-19 Operational Standards for Pharmacies
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the PSI has developed new COVID-19 Operational Standards to apply across all pharmacies. The Standards aim to provide concise, outcomes focused statements to guide those people involved in the governance and leadership of pharmacies (i.e. owners, superintendent pharmacists and supervising pharmacists) in providing safe, patient centred care and in delivering quality pharmacy services during this challenging period
The Standards cover the following four domains with Quality and Safety being the overarching principles:
- Good governance
- The pharmacy team
- The pharmacy setting
- The pharmacy services

Contingency Planning for COVID-19
On 13 March 2020 the HSE wrote to community pharmacies advising that they put a business continuity plan in place to manage issues that may arise during the Covid-19 pandemic. This pharmacist circular included guidance to support pharmacies with initial business continuity planning.
A version two of this guidance for community pharmacies has now been revised and updated, and is issued jointly by the PSI and HSE. It can be accessed at the following link:
