To deliver the Common Conditions Service, pharmacists must hold certificates of completion from IIOP for each of the following:

  • Common Conditions Core Module
  • Common Conditions – Condition Specific Modules

These are self-directed fully online modules. You must be logged in to your IIOP account to enrol.

The Common Conditions Core Module will take approximately one hour to complete.

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • Outline the legislative basis and ethical framework pertaining to the provision of the Common Conditions Service and associated prescribing.
  • Identify the supporting standards of practice, ethical principles, antimicrobial stewardship and clinical protocols and guidelines related to prescribing for common conditions.
  • Describe the seven PSI guiding principles listed in PSI 'Guidelines to Support the Provision of a Common Conditions Service', including applying the associated outcome-focused indicators and mandatory duties as detailed in the PSI Guidelines.
  • Explain a pharmacist’s responsibility and accountability, including those in governance roles, in ensuring the provision of a safe and high-quality service.
  • Detail required record-keeping requirements, including legislative requirements pertaining to the issuing of a prescription and those related to patient consent.
  • Identify recommended evidence-based resources to optimise patient outcomes when prescribing approved medicines for common conditions.
  • Apply patient consultation and communication skills in the context of the Common Conditions Service.

Both certificates must be achieved if you wish to deliver a Common Conditions Service.
